The Pike River Recovery Agency's operations are drawing to a close.  Items no longer needed may be of interest to other operations.

Surplus materials and resources

Te Kāhui Whakamana Rua Tekau mā Iwa - Pike River Recovery Agency’s main objective was to conduct a manned recovery of the Pike River Mine drift, which has now been completed.  While the Agency still has work to complete, it is anticipated it will be disestablished some time in the next six months, and is preparing for that eventuality.

As a result, various surplus used materials and resources are becoming available at the Pike River Mine Site.  These materials and resources are no longer of any use, are of no economic value, and the Agency wishes to dispose of them.

Items of low or no economic value (i.e. mesh) are being sold to relevant businesses and contractors through a tender system. Items such as the decommissioned main fan are remaining on site as part of the handover to the Department of Conservation - that includes all buildings and workshops and other infrastructure remains such as the old coal slurry line and pump station foundations.

If you wish to express an interest in any remaining surplus used items (being items used in mining operations), please contact the Agency’s Chief Operating Officer, Dinghy Pattinson by email at
